More Than Startups: Building Hope, Trust, and a Shared Future

When people hear the word "startup," they often think about technology, funding rounds, business plans, and growth metrics. While those things matter, my experience at 50:50 Startups has taught me that the real story is much deeper.

I was born and raised in the West Bank, where I continue to live today. For the past five and a half years, I have had the privilege of being part of 50:50 Startups, an organization that brings Palestinian and Israeli entrepreneurs together to build startups as equal co-founders, with equal ownership, shared responsibility, and success through a unique 50:50 co-founding model.

My decision to join 50:50 Startups was driven by a strong desire to support Palestinians in building brighter futures through entrepreneurship and innovation. I have always believed that talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. Across Palestine, I have met incredibly talented entrepreneurs with innovative ideas, strong determination, and an unwavering desire to build a better future for themselves and their communities. Yet many face challenges that make their entrepreneurial journey far more difficult than it should be.

For me, supporting these entrepreneurs is not simply a professional responsibility; it’s a personal mission. I want to do everything I can to help them access opportunities, expand their horizons, and build better lives for themselves and their families.

What makes 50:50 Startups special is that it goes beyond supporting businesses. It creates opportunities for Palestinian entrepreneurs to connect with investors, mentors, partners, and markets they might otherwise never reach. It opens doors to the outside world and gives founders the chance to transform ambitious ideas into thriving companies.

However, the most meaningful moments I have experienced at 50:50 Startups were not during investment discussions or startup showcases. They were the conversations!

Over the years, I have had the privilege of meeting entrepreneurs from both Palestinian and Israeli communities. I have sat with founders over coffee, during workshops, and at networking events, listening to their stories. Stories of struggle and perseverance. Stories of families making sacrifices so their children could pursue their dreams. Stories of uncertainty, loss, resilience, and hope.

I have shared emotional moments with founders speaking about the obstacles they have overcome. I have witnessed joy, disappointment, ambition, fear, and determination, all the emotions that come with trying to build something meaningful.

What struck me most was that, despite coming from different backgrounds, people often wanted the same things. They wanted opportunities. They wanted stability. They wanted to create value, provide for their families, and leave a positive impact on the world around them.

These experiences changed the way I think about entrepreneurship. I realized that 50:50 Startups is not only building companies. We are building trust.

Every time Palestinian and Israeli entrepreneurs meet, share ideas, solve problems together, or support one another, a bridge is created. Every partnership formed and every conversation held helps break down barriers and replace assumptions with understanding.

In a region where divisions often dominate the narrative, these human connections matter.

They remind us that collaboration is possible.

They remind us that innovation can bring people together.

They remind us that shared goals can be stronger than differences.

This is why I believe so strongly in the mission of 50:50 Startups. The organization provides Palestinian and Israeli entrepreneurs with real opportunities to realize their business and financial dreams, while creating an environment where collaboration can flourish across communities.

The impact goes far beyond startup success stories. It can be seen in the confidence of a founder who finally gains access to a global network. It can be seen in the new partnership between entrepreneurs who might never have met otherwise. It can be seen in the jobs created, the communities strengthened, and the relationships built along the way.

At its core, 50:50 Startups is investing in people.

Yes, we help launch startups.

Yes, we support innovation and economic growth.

Nevertheless, most importantly, we help people connect, learn from one another, and work together toward a better future.

Because in the end, we are not just building startups.

We are building trust between people.

I realized that 50:50 Startups is not only building companies. We are creating a model by which the next Palestinian and Israeli generations can coexist side by side and flourish together.
